Today, we are highlighting our favorite Branford r Today, we are highlighting our favorite Branford resident, Nathaniel Harrison--the original owner of our Harrison House! He lays to rest in Branford's Center Cemetery. Harrison (Row 6) was born 3 August 1735 to Nathaniel and Thankful (Wilkinson). Harrison married 19 December 1758 to Mary Tyler and died in 1776. His tombstone is missing; the stone went missing sometime between 1934 and 1978. Captain Joel Ives (Row 39, Stone 2) was born 30 April 1776 [maybe in Hartland, CT] to Joel and Mary (Heaton). He fought in the War of 1812. Happy Valentine's Day! While searching through our Happy Valentine's Day! While searching through our collection for Valentine-themed memories we came across this sweet Valentine for Harriet Elizabeth (Bradley) Hoadley (Sept. 7, 1879- Feb. 14, 1959 [note she died on Valentine's Day] ) from Laura Foote c.1900.  We have other identifying papers including her voter registration and list of possessions. She is buried in Center Cemetery. #HistoricPreservation #Branford250 #VintageValentine

The Branford Historical Society seeks to preserve The Branford Historical Society seeks to preserve and celebrate the living history of our community by collecting personal stories, memories, and experiences from residents, past and present. The Branford Narrative Project: In Your Voice will create a rich tapestry of Branford's social and cultural heritage for future generations. As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, this oral history project takes on special significance. By collecting stories now, we contribute to the national conversation about American history while ensuring that Branford's unique voice is preserved as part of this milestone celebration. Throughout 2026, a team of volunteers will identify and collect stories from diverse community members representing different neighborhoods, generations, and backgrounds.
Whether you’ve lived in town for five years or fifty-five years, your experiences are part of our town’s history. The stories collected will be about the people who live, work and play in Branford, now or in the past. Thomas Fowler (Row 1, Stone 10) was born on 4 August 1 776 in North Guilford and died 21 April 1826. Fowler was the son of Thomas and Beulah (Bishop) Fowler and married in 1797. American Revoluntary War Lieutenant, Timothy Frisbie, (Row 5, Stone 9) was born 1733 to Joseph and Abigail (Hoadley) and died 7 May 1776 at age 43.
