Stony Creek’s Summer Hotels

Stony Creek, Branford was one of the more popular summer resort destinations, with nine hotels, several of which were on the Thimble Islands. Shortly after the Civil War, people intent on spending summer on the shoreline came from industrial cities of Connecticut and beyond, traveling by train or trolley, to enjoy one of nineteen summer hotels along Branford’s shore. Jane P. Bouley narrates the history of the summer Hotels of Stony Creek, discussing their owner and guests, along with many wonderful photographs.
