The Web They Wove: Women & Their Wardrobes During New England’s Revolution

A Fashion and Fabric Show and Tell by The Dirty Blue Shirts
Join us as we delve into the significant yet often overlooked contributions of women during the Revolutionary era, highlighting how their choices in textiles and clothing production played a crucial role in supporting families and communities while the fight for independence unfolded. Costumed historians from The Dirty Blue Shirts will present fascinating stories, showcase reproduction garments, and display historical fabric samples, offering insights into the daily lives and creative resilience of women during this transformative period.

TOUR THE HARRISON HOUSE MUSEUM
The Historic Harrison House Museum at 124 Main Street, Branford is open to the public for free guided tours every Saturday, from 1-4 pm, June through the end of September or by appointment. (Donations are appreciated)

The circa 1724 saltbox house and property is recorded on the National Register of Historic Places, and is maintained by the Branford Historical Society. It features period furnishings and Branford artifacts.
Also on the two-acre site, is the Harrison House Barn with a display of local period tools, a colonial flower garden, and a lovely herb garden. The gardens were established and are beautifully maintained by the
Branford Garden Club.

History to Legend to Myth: Remembering the Revolution in Connecticut

Situated between Massachusetts & New York, both hotbeds of activity during the American Revolution, Connecticut’s role in the war is often overlooked. Using the state’s memorials, statues, & landmarks as touchstones, Richard Franklin Donohue will detail what happened in Connecticut throughout the Revolution, explore the ways in which the state’s patriots participated in the movement towards independence, and how these events have been remembered, and in some cases, romanticized, for 250 years.
